001 - [Video] - The Barge =/= Panem

[Clove flicks on the journal, playing with it, testing it's capabilities. It's... not exactly like anything she's seen before, but it's not too hard to work out, and maybe, if she has advanced tech...]

Cato? Are you there? Did we win? Can- [There's a pause. She's still groggy and having trouble remembering everything clearly, so it's taking her a while to register that the voices coming through on the journals have a lot of different accents, and don't seem to be gossiping about the apparent end of the Hunger Games. How to respond? Confusion and frustration, obviously.]

Hey, I'm asking a question! Somebody answer me. Who were the victors? The Games, who won? [She frowns suddenly and then throws the journal down onto a table. You can JUST see her in the edge of the screen, checking her body for injuries. When she doesn't find any, she snatches up the journal again.] The tracker jacker stings are gone... Where am I?

Hey, Cato! Are we in the Capitol?

You're on the Barge. It's a trans-dimensional ship used for the purpose of rehabilitating those who lived questionable lives.

When people arrive here and don't know why they're here, like yourself, they're probably inmates.

You're in good hands.

Can you tell me your name?

[She's just STARING a bit. ]

My name- Everyone should know my name, every person in Panem knows my name. I'm the tribute for District Two.

[Sarah continues in as calm a tone as she can manage, despite the fact that woah, this is not sinking in.]

This isn't Panem. This is the Barge. My name is Dr. Sarah Harding, and I'm trying to help you.

Can you tell me your name?

Stop patronizing me. [GRR. Kindness, she kind of doesn't know how to respond to it.] My name is Clove. And this has got to be some kind of pathetic attempt at a joke. There isn't anywhere but Panem.

[Her tone loses some of the over-emphasized patience. She knows when to recognize people who don't need coddling.]

All right, Clove. I'm afraid this isn't a joke, and you're not in Panem. This is the Barge, and you're probably an inmate - which means you're probably also dead.

I'm sorry. If you don't believe me, have a look outside your door.

[Whoa, whoa. WHAT.]

Dead? What do you mean dead?

Video

[identity profile] whattheytellyou.livejournal.com 2011-03-15 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
I know it's overwhelming. The Barge is a second chance for you.

But- I'm here, I'm breathing. How is that dead?

[identity profile] whattheytellyou.livejournal.com 2011-03-16 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess the more appropriate term is "died". You died. And now you're here.

The Barge is a rehabilitation ship; you're here to redeem yourself for the life you lived. I know that probably seems very esoteric, but you'll understand eventually.

How old are you, Clove?

Redeem- [She looks like she can't decide whether to scream or cry. Instead she just answers the question in a flat voice.] I'm seventeen. I'm seventeen and it was my Games to win. If I'm dead- If-

[And now she screams. She drops her journal with a strangled, painful, angry sound that starts low and builds up. She's tearing her room apart.]

Clove. Clove.

[Her tone is sharp, but not panicked.]

Can you hear me? You can go back. Clove, stop what you're doing. You can go back.

[Clove's scream dies off and on the repetition of Sarah's statement, she stops destroying the room. There's a moment's pause and then she snatches the journal from the floor.]

What do you mean? How?

[Wow. Live one.]

As I said, the Barge is a second chance for you. Once you go through the program and are deemed rehabilitated, you can make the choice to go home.

You don't need to be afraid.

I'm not afraid. [WELL, there was a lot of derision in that statement.] So I can go back and be alive again?

Poor word choice on my part. 'Agitated' might be better.

Once you rehabilitate, if you choose to go back, then yes. You can go back and be alive.

What do I have to do? How does it work?

Video

[identity profile] whattheytellyou.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
You'll be assigned a warden to work with you - hopefully soon. They'll be provided with your information and explain to you what needs to be done.

The assignments happen about once every two weeks, so you shouldn't have to wait too long.

[There's a long pause. Clove seems calm enough now; she's planning. c:]

What is this place?

Video

[identity profile] whattheytellyou.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Better planning than tearing up the joint.]

This is the Barge. It's a ship capable of traveling through time and space. There are, at any given time, around one hundred passengers aboard - both inmates, such as yourself, and wardens.
